Carmelo Anthony is a retired American professional basketball player who played 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a 10-time NBA All-Star, 6-time All-NBA selection, and a 2003 NBA All-Rookie First Team selection. Anthony is the 10th all-time leading scorer in NBA history with 28,289 points.
Anthony was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 29, 1984. He attended Towson Catholic High School in Towson, Maryland, and Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Anthony was a highly sought-after recruit coming out of high school, and he ultimately committed to play college basketball at Syracuse University.
At Syracuse, Anthony led the Orange to the 2003 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four, and he was also named the National Player of the Year by the Associated Press. Anthony declared for the NBA draft after his freshman season, and he was selected by the Denver Nuggets with the third overall pick.
Anthony spent the first 7 seasons of his NBA career with the Nuggets. He was a two-time scoring champion during his time in Denver, and he led the Nuggets to the playoffs in 6 of his 7 seasons with the team. In 2011, Anthony was traded to the New York Knicks. He spent the next 6 seasons with the Knicks, and he helped the team reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2013.
In 2017, Anthony was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played one season with the Thunder, and he then signed with the Houston Rockets in 2018. Anthony was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 2019, and he then signed with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2019. Anthony played one season with the Trail Blazers, and he then signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. He played one season with the Lakers, and he retired after the 2021-2022 season.
